![🪻Words are powerful.🪻
As a writer, (as I’m lovingly referred to in my family, a “grammar nazi”) I love words. I always have. Words convey emotion, captivate the imagination, and intrigue the senses. When words are used incorrectly, improperly, or in a hurtful way; it devastates my inner being. I physically ache.
Yet, what about the words used not in the context of literary work, but those we speak?
How many times have words come out of your mouth before you gave them a thought? How often has something you’ve said (unintentionally) discouraged the hearer? If you’re like me, it’s more times than you’d like to admit to.
We are reminded in the book of Proverbs, chapter 18, verse 21 that, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.”
This will either make you flinch OR calm your heart. If you flinched and thought (like me), “oh geez, ouch!” then your words may need to be reconsidered BEFORE they are let loose to do their damage.
If this verse brought you peace; thank the Holy Spirit for helping you to carefully consider your words before they are spoken.
As children of God, it is our duty, our responsibility to guard our mouth.

But now rid yourselves [completely] of all these things: anger, rage, malice, slander, and obscene (abusive, filthy, vulgar) language from your mouth.
Ephesians 4:29 AMP
Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].
